Beetlejuice Halloween Party & Movie Night
Halloween is one of the most fun holidays to not just celebrate, but to decorate and plan parties for! One of my favorite spooky season themes is Beetlejuice because it combines all the typical Halloween décor with fun purple, lime green, and black-and-white striped accents. Plus, with the release of the second Beetlejuice movie, it’s the perfect theme for a Halloween movie night or party for kids and adults!
Read on to learn how to host the best Beetlejuice-themed movie night or Halloween party, including:
Beetlejuice Décor
Spooky Snacks
Themed Activities
Bonus Ideas
This year, my family and I pulled together a Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice Movie Night for our friend’s birthday in less than a week! It’s really such an easy theme since you can re-use most Halloween décor you already have and just need to pick up a couple purple and green touches!
Let’s get into the details so you can host your own!
Beetlejuice Décor
Beetlejuice is one of the easiest and most fun themes to decorate for! First, we searched through the Halloween decorations we already had and picked out anything that was black, white, purple, or green. Then the only thing we needed to buy was balloons, plates, and napkins!
To create the décor in my pictures, all you’ll need is:
Purple, green, & black balloons and balloon garland supplies or string
Trays, boxes, or serving platters to display candy, popcorn, and snacks
Black-and-white napkins, plates, silverware, and tablecloth
Black tulle, cobwebs, or cloths to hang between lights, on the ceiling, running down tables, or draped between food
Purple string lights, candlesticks or battery-operated candles, or any fun Halloween lights
Table runner and centerpieces
More fun ideas are:
Purple, green, & black-and-white striped blankets and pillows
Cobwebs and spiders anywhere & everywhere
Pumpkins (real or fake) painted purple, green, or black-and-white stripes
Spooky Snacks
Popcorn – If you’re hosting a movie night, you of course need the usual buttered popcorn, but you can make it more fun by getting flavored popcorn seasonings or specialty kettle corn, mixing in a Halloween sweet like candy corn or purple and green M&Ms, or making a popcorn bar where guests can make their own popcorn-based trail mix with candies, raisins, nuts, etc.
Spooky Packaging or Presentation – We found these skeleton hand plastic food baggies at Walmart and used them for kettle corn. They looked so cute dangling over the trays and added a fun Halloween touch to a very simple party snack!
Boxed Movie Candy – Everyone loves to munch on their favorite candy while watching a movie, so I like to get the personal-sized boxes so it feels like you’re at the movie theater! You can really display the boxes of candy in any way, but a few fun ideas are with a tiered tray (like in my photos), piled around the table, in a bowl, or to create a layered display like the case at a theater, stack up several boxes, books, or trays and cover them with a tablecloth or fabric
Tip: You can get these at most grocery stores, but the cheapest I’ve found are at the Dollar Tree!
Themed Drink – There are endless ideas for specialty drinks but a few ideas are green punch with Midori or green chartreuse, a purple cocktail with crème de violette or Blue Curacao + grenadine, or a fall sangria
Caramel Apple Bar – This was by far the biggest hit of the party and was so simple to pull together! Setup is minimal and you can get everything you need at the grocery store:
Apples: Get a few different kinds and a couple green to add more colors and options
Sauces: Caramel, Chocolate, Peanut Butter
Toppings: Sprinkles, Nuts, Mini Chocolate Chips
Serving Supplies: Little Dishes for the sauces & toppings, apple slicer or knife
Optional: Skewers or picks to create classic caramel apples on a stick
For classic caramel apples, prepare the apples on sticks before your guests come. Or we found that the apples were actually easier to eat (and prepare) by just slicing them and dipping into the toppings. We were with close friends so we just dipped into the sauces (and made sure not to double dip!), but if you’re hosting a lot of people or kids, you can get small plastic cups for each person to fill with their own toppings or prepare individual boxes or plates with mini cups of each sauce and topping.
Activities
Movie Night – Hosting a movie night makes for an easy party agenda! If you’re hosting inside, you can make it cozy with blankets, pillows, and an air mattress if you need more seats. If want to make the movie even spookier, set up a projector and sheet outside and rearrange patio furniture, beach chairs, and blankets for seating
If you’re watching with adults and want to make the movie a little more fun (and boozy), you can play a movie-specific drinking game! Just watch for certain things to happen in the movie and then drink, like “drink every time someone says Beetlejuice.” Games like this are perfect to do while watching a movie with a group because if you’re anything like me and my friends, we end up talking and realize we missed the whole thing, so the game ensures everyone actually pays attention to the movie! You can make your own rules or just google “[movie name] drinking game”
Pumpkin Carving – For a pre-movie activity, carve or paint pumpkins! You can have a station set up with tablecloths and tarps for easy clean up, pumpkins, carving or painting tools, and stencils or paint. You can even make it a contest and vote for the best at the end. If you want to be the best host ever, you could cut the pumpkin tops off and remove the insides before the party so all your guests have to do is the fun part!
Bonus Ideas
Instead of a movie night, this theme is also perfect for a Halloween party and you can put the movie on in the background to add to the vibe!
Tell all of your guests to wear their best Beetlejuice outfit, Halloween pajamas, or a costume.
If you’re spending all day together or have a lot of time, you can have a double feature and watch both the old and new Beetlejuice or another Halloween movie!
If you want to make spooky season more fun or have a unique Halloween party, host your own Beetlejuice Movie Night! It’s one of the easiest and most affordable themes to pull off and can really be as extravagant or laid back as you want! This theme is so versatile because it can be a very casual movie night for a few friends, a big Halloween party for adults, or a fun themed party for kids.
My family and friends had such a fun time with this theme and I hope yours do too!
